 About Us

ZaRUBa & ZaRUBa is a family owned and operated jewelry gallery.  Founded in 1990 as Zaruba and Co., the torch was passed to the next generation of Zaruba jewelry craftsmen in 2004.  With that passing,  we received our new name and new look to compliment our steadfast reputation for high-quality custom designs and original pieces.

  Meet Andrew Zaruba

After studying under his father for three years,  Andrew worked with several top jewelry designers in the San Francisco Bay area.  Out West, he polished his design skills and developed an expertise in the ancient and delicate art of fine granulation.  He returned to Frederick to take the galleries reins as its second-generation craftsman.

Andrew's pieces reflect a bold and daring hint of spontaneity as they often transform while in his hands.  A characteristic he proudly attributes to his unorthodox training, he often allows the natural beauty of each unique stone to steer his work.

Andrew was invited to teach at the well-reputed Touchstone Center for Crafts in Pennsylvania and is an active member of the Society of Northern American Goldsmiths and the Washington Guild of Goldsmiths.

He finds his inspirations in architecture and joy in music.  He is the proud father of three children: Alex, Kendra and Nick.

  Meet Doug Zaruba

Doug studied sculpture and painting for 10 years with the art department of the University of Buffalo in New York. Expanding his skills, he turned to small castings and apprenticed for five years with a German master goldsmith.

Doug is known to be an exacting craftsman who is interested in light,  form and movement of an object. He considers his work to be contemporary interpretations of classical designs and aims to capture the element of timelessness in each piece.

Doug has shown his work at various museums and galleries throughout the world,  including the Barbara Breit Collection in Tokyo, the Museum of Decorative Arts in Moscow, the American Crafts Museum in New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia.

  Meet Tank

A playful yellow Labrador, Tank is the Gallery's official greeter and knows no strangers. Our five year old furred friend often welcomes visitors with a toy in tow and is always up for a good belly rub.
